In happier times... Amelia Navugona with her late husband, Private Josese Ledua, who died in an alleged hit-and-run accident in July 2020.

More than a year after she lost her husband to an alleged hit-and run accident, Amelia Navugona wants answers and justice to be served.

The late Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Private Josese Ledua lost his life along the Saweni stretch last year in July, 2020.

And for the first time his widow has found the courage to speak about her loss.

After being together for 10 years, the couple finally tied the knot in 2016, later having three children.

Ms Navugona said she hoped the culprit would be taken to task soon.

“I have been following up with Police, recently two months ago but nothing has been done,” she said.

“The Police are sleeping on this case it has been more than one year now.”

But Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said no person has been charged yet as investigations into the matter continues.

Lead Up To Tragedy
Ms Navugona recalled Private Ledua leaving their Natabua home early that morning assuring his family that he would see them later that day.

“He went to work early that day, kissed me and the kids goodbye and said that we will meet again in the evening but after I came home from work and made a few calls, his phone kept ringing without being answered,” she said.

“I called him the whole night till the next morning when a friend from Lauwaki Village called to inform me of the devastating news.

“I didn’t believe it but all confirmation was when his sister called me from the morgue after identifying his body along with other military personnel.”

Her children, she said have accepted that their father was no longer with them.
