Suva Host Rugby 10s Tournament

The Suva Rugby Union has been boosted with a $7000 sponsorship by Digicel Fiji for its club 10s competition that starts this Saturday.
Digicel Fiji Chief Executive Officer Farid Mohammed presented the cash as part of its sponsorship support for the first club rugby tournament after months of sports restrictions.
The championship is co-sponsored by Tau Sports who gave $3000 plus some merchandise.
Twenty-eight teams will participate this week with another 28 to play next Saturday.
The top 14 of the first and the second competitions will battle it out on the finals on December 4 at Albert Park.
This is to prepare for next year’s Skipper Cup season.
The six women’s teams participating include Striders, Army, Marist, Lilian Amazons and the two Fijiana teams that are preparing for the World Cup next year.
Suva Rugby Union secretary, Tevita Tuiloa said: “Two Fijiana teams have expressed their interest to participate as part of their preparation for next year’s women’s World Cup in New Zealand.
“This is a platform to select our women’s and men’s team for our Skipper Cup in 2022.”
Mohammed said: “I would like to commend the hard work of the SRU chairman and his team in getting competitive rugby back on the park after a long time.”
“Our players and supporters have been looking forward to this and Suva Rugby Union is the first provincial union to organise a tournament for its club teams.”
“I have been informed that club teams have been preparing for the Digicel & Tau Sports 10s Championship the past few weeks.
“We’re in to witness some exciting games over the next two weeks followed by the final playoffs weekend.”
