Waiyavi-Born Publishes First Book On Happy Marriage
Former Fijian resident of Waiyavi, Lautoka, Suresh Chandra with copies of his book ‘Are you interested in Marriage and Family?’.

A former Fijian resident, who now resides in Melbourne, Australia, published his first book aiming to promote the values of a healthy marriage for couples.

The book ‘Are you interested in Marriage and Family?’ took Suresh Chandra close to six months to put together before marketing it.

Mr Chandra grew up in Waiyavi, Lautoka in the early 1970s and 80s running his own business while actively participating in Christian Evangelism before migrating to Australia in 1987 with his wife, Pratima and son, Avinesh.

He is now a life coach, Justice of Peace and a marriage celebrant having so far conducted more than 800 weddings.

Mr Chandra said the inspiration to write his first book during Australia’s COVID-19 lockdown period this year drew from his pre-marriage counselling sessions with clients who planned to get married.

He also highlighted that after 52 years of marriage, he gathered that marriage was all about commitment and communication.

“I believe strongly in the marriage institution,” he said.

“I believe a happy marriage adds value to the family, community and is an asset to a country. It is this belief in the marriage institution that I have written this book and hope it will add value to people’s lives.”

“I was completely awed that most young people today have no idea of the day-to-day married life.”

“Also as a Justice of the Peace I sign affidavits for couples seeking divorce and young couples with beautiful families which could be an asset to the country being torn apart by divorce.”

What To Expect
He said the book deals with – what to look for in your prospective partner, how to use words, how to show respect to each other and the importance of family.

Mr Chandra said in reality, no priest, parent or teacher would sit to discuss the important subject of marriage.

“My book is also one way of giving back to my country, Fiji, where the foundation of my life began,” he added.

More than 100,000 copies of the book have been sold so far.

The book is sold on Amazon and Booktopia for AUD$24.99 (about $38.21).
