From law to the church ministry, 30-year-old Asinate Mataitoga can finally say that her dream to become a reverend has just begun.

The former lawyer at the the Legal Practitoners Unit was yesterday ordained and graduated as reverend during the Methodist Church in Fiji.

This was during the 113th graduation of Theological Education and Services at Davuilevu Theological College in Nausori.

She received the Reverend Dr Vakadewavosa, Principal’s prize for Academic Excellence Award.

She was among 13 to graduate.

Reverend Mataitoga is the second eldest of seven siblings and hails from Nukuni Village in Ono-i-Lau.

She spent the last three years studying Diploma in Theology.

She completed her Bachelor of Law degree from the University of the South Pacific and then worked at the Legal Practitioners Unit.

However, growing up in a family grounded by church values, she then decided to follow what she believed was her calling.

“Everything was made possible because of God,” she said.

“He called me and gave me the strength to do this and I did with His blessings.”

Reverend Asinate’s word of advice to the youngsters is to always believe in themselves, believe in God, trust in Him, and seek His purpose in their lives.

She is looking forward to her first posting which is likely to serve at Koro High School as a chaplain.

Reverend Asinate also received the following awards:
–  The Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu Old Testament Prize
