Parents of children in Qila community in Taveuni are now being more cautious after a seven-year-old mute child was reported missing a week ago. He has still not been found.

Advisory councillor Jitendra Naidu said the community had assisted the Police in the search for Chirag Murti.

“His parents are not giving up, despite the search been called off by Police,” Mr Naidu said.

“We have hope in finding the first missing child from this area. We also want to know whether this is a case of human trafficking or kidnapping, if a body is not found.”

“It cannot be a case of drowning because the nearest creek is 10 metres away from their home and is dried up.”

“We have also noticed an increase in number of outsiders coming into the area,” he said.

The boy’s mother, Nardi Naidu, simply wants her son to be found; either a body or better alive.

Father Sham Murti said they had even taken a sevusevu to the land owners to seek their assistance.

“In case my son was misguided by the spirits of the land, we have presented our request to return our son,” he said.

“We’re still hopeful and will not give up in the search.”

“My son was last seen wearing a red t-shirt and blue shorts while playing with his siblings last Friday.”

“If anyone has any information of his whereabouts, please let us know,” he pleaded.

The incident was reported to Police by Advisory Councillor Jitendra Naidu when Mrs Naidu sought his assistance.

Chirag Murti has a twin brother and a three-year-old sister.
