The Fiji Police Force have used drones to search for seven-year-old Chiraag Murti who is missing in Taveuni.

Chiraag has been missing for 13 days. He was last seen at his home in Qila, Taveuni.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the 10 Police officers from Suva who landed in Taveuni on Sunday had utilised their drones to search for the child.

And while the authorities have been using technology, residents in Qila are using spiritual means, including hiring of religious leaders to ward off evil spirits and possibly locate the child through psychic means.

Chiraag’s father, Shyam Murti, said his neighbours had collected the money to get the spiritual leaders in from Labasa.

“Some people are organising prayers to look for my son. That is all good and I hope the prayers work and my son is found,” Mr Murti said.

“The Police have been looking with drones for the last three days but have not come back with any positive results.

“If I had been allowed to contact the media on the day my son went missing, we would have had some information. But after keeping quiet for three days, I finally spoke to the media.

“Three days is a long time. If someone has taken my son, this would be ample time for them to disappear.”

Mr Murti said Chiraag and his twin Chahal could not speak, but were able to hear properly.

Police have denied claims that they did not allow Mr Murti to talk to the media. Investigations and search for the child continues.
