A vegetable farmer from Satulaki, Korotari in Cakaudrove Province was reassured on the development of a farm road for his area.

This affirmation came from the Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Waterways, Mahendra Reddy during a talanoa session at Macuata House in Labasa on Tuesday.

Atunaisa Tunayau, who received his land clearing development grant, said the road development would greatly contribute to his ability to supply large quantities of vegetables and root crops to Labasa and other areas for sale.

Mr Tunayau said the deteriorated state of the farm road in his area, made it a difficult process to transport his vegetable and root crops to Labasa Market.

“There are other farmers in the area who have faced the same problem for many years now, so this will contribute to the greater good of farmers in Satulaki,” he said.

Mr Reddy said the farmer’s request would be placed on the ministry’s farm road development master sheet.

Giving confidence he told the farmer that the development would be completed by November next year, however, their teams would try their best to complete the project before deadline.

“Every time a farm road is developed, it costs the ministry about $40,000 to develop a single kilometre, which is an expensive project to undertake,” he said.
