FijiFirst Party’s drive to provide a better future for all Fijians is what attracted newly-appointed Adi Tema Varo Sovau to the party.

The Marama Taukei Naua from Saunaka, Nadi was recently appointed as FijiFirst President, replacing Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, who is now the President of Fiji.

Adi Tema is young, spiritual and future-focussed and looks forward to contributing to government’s continued plans to provide for Fiji’s future generations.

“If we reflect on Romans Chapter 13 in the Bible, it tells us that good leadership is from God and we as God’s children must be obedient to the Government and leaders of the day,” Adi Tema said.

“I am part of the younger generation of Fijians who know that FijiFirst provides a stable environment and has consistency in policy amidst the many challenges, including climate change that small island nations face in the world today.

“I am particularly appreciative of the party’s stance against all forms of discrimination, the focus on equality and opportunities for all Fijians.

“FijiFirst provides for the empowerment of people on the margins of society; including disabled persons and children. I also believe the funding of the development of iTaukei land by the FijiFirst Government will not only empower many landowning units or members of landowning units but it will also create economic prosperity for Fiji.”

Support and pledge

Since her appointment, she said she has been overwhelmed who have congratulated her and pledged their support.

“It is quite apparent that the young people of Fiji also want stability, consistency in policy and prosperity. This is what I know FijiFirst provides,” she said, adding that she has always believed that FijiFirst is very inclusive.

“Given that I am below 40 and female and am the President of Fiji First, I know that FijiFirst “walks the talk”.

“FijiFirst has always provided strong and consistent leadership, including in this pandemic, through our leader Voreqe Bainimarama.

“The FijiFirst Government had a science-based approach to its measures, remained steadfast and persevered with a long term strategy. Coming from Nadi, I have seen the impact that the pandemic has had on the tourism sector first hand and I am happy that we are now able to open our borders and we look forward to welcome our first tourists on the first of December.”

She adds: “we are all in this together – please get vaccinated if you haven’t already, and also keep up with the health measures so that we do not have to go back on our new path of normalcy.

“I am glad that I can be part of the FijiFirst movement. I had a good meeting with the Party Leader and General Secretary and we discussed the way forward for FijiFirst.

“I have confidence in the leadership by the Party Leader and General Secretary and I am grateful for this opportunity to be president so that I can also contribute.”

She thanked God, her family, the people of Saunaka and the wider community for their support and promises to serve in her new role to the best of her ability.
