From her dream of becoming a Doctor to Deaconess.

Twenty-seven-year-old Mereseini Laqekoro did not hesitate to make that change after heeding the call to take up Theological Studies.

After completing Form Six studies as a Pure Science student at Lelean Memorial School, Mereseini’s sight was set on going to medical school to become a doctor.

However, after taking a two year break and following a visit to her village by an evangelism group, she said her mind was made up.

“I felt that God had called on me even though I had a target to pursue further studies at a tertiary institution,” Ms Laqekoro said.

“The first time I told my parents that I wanted to go to Lotu Bible School my mum did not approve of it because they wanted me to go to USP. I thank my dad who supported me throughout and even- tually my family also rallied behind me.”

Mereseini is the first in her family of 19 siblings to take up Theological Studies and also the first one in her village of Naqeledamu, Bau, Tailevu.

As the youngest, her family has always been her pillar of strength.

“It’s been a long journey. It’s been 5 years of training; 3 years of studies and 2 years of probation in the field,” she said.

“There’s many challenges but I feel God has called on me, he’s been the provider and sustainer of my life until now.

“As God calls he will also provide.”

Now serving at Lotu Bible School where she began her journey, some of the challenges she has faced include teaching students who are older than her and also teaching males.

“Today is the happiest day of my life. I’ve looked forward to this day for years. Sometimes there are challenges but I know God allows that to happen and I thank God for everything.”

Ms Laqekoro has maternal links to Navuso in Naitasiri.
