50 Fijian Troops To Honiara To Be Led By Major Toanikeve

The 50-member troop from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces leaving to provide security assistance amid the Solomon Islands unrest will be led by Major Asaeli Toanikeve.
The troop departing for Honiara today are believed to be flying out onboard an Australian Defence Force aircraft out of Nadi International Airport.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama conveyed Government’s thoughts and prayers to brothers and sisters in the Solomon Islands for the turmoil they are currently experiencing.
The Fijian soldiers will be part of a reinforced platoon embedded with Australian Force personnel there.
An additional 120 troops will be on standby in Fiji awaiting deployment if needed.
