Chamber presidents of Labasa and Savusavu have advised northerners to carry out early Christmas shopping to avoid travelling and being in crowded places.

This is to minimise health risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industries president, Satish Kumar, said people should do their Christmas shopping in advance.

“Avoid visiting crowded places because there is a possibility that public health protocols could be breached or ignored,” he said.

Mr Kumar said it was essential for people to continue following COVID safe protocols of mask-wearing, social distancing and hand sanitising or washing.

Savusavu Chamber of Commerce and Industries president, Ravi Chhaganlal, shared similar sentiments.

One early Christmas shopper, Onisimo Naikou, was eager to make the essential purchases on time so that he prevented the large crowds posing risks of COVID-19 transmission.
