Let’s Go Local: Outrigger Recognised At HM Awards, Taveuni On Top Of Darren Shaw’s List

Darren Shaw was recently recognised as South Pacific Hotel General Manager of The Year at the HM Awards 2021 Gala.
Mr Shaw is no stranger to Fiji.
He has been living in Fiji after being appointed as the General Manager at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort in 2019.
Mr Shaw was the general manager of the property which was then known as Outrigger on the Lagoon, Fiji from 2006 to 2009.
After leaving Fiji, he was appointed as General Manager of the newly opened Outrigger Laguna Phuket Resort and Villas, Thailand in 2010.
The HM awards was held on Friday, December 3 at Sydney Town Hall, Australia.

The Hotel Management Awards were held in Sydney Town Hall, with five Awards being won for Outrigger Hotels and Resorts:
– HM Magazine Asia-Pacific Hotelier of the Year: Outrigger CEO Jeff Wagoner
– South Pacific General Manager: Darren Shaw
– Sales and Marketing Associate: Ben Johnson
– Fijian Property: Castaway Island, Fiji
– Environmental Program: Castaway Island, Fiji
Mr Shaw said: “I would like to thank HM Magazine, their sponsors, Outrigger Hospitality Group and the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort vuvale.”
“I am honoured to have been selected for such recognition.”
“The last 12 months have been extraordinarily challenging for so many people, so I am pleased to lead a team who have been at the forefront in supporting our community.”
He highlighted that Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort team members are resilient, caring and giving by nature and this continues to inspire him to improve and do better.
“Now with the last year of challenges behind us, we can return our focus to being the best hospitality service providers with the re-introduction of our international guests to our shores.”

How many places have you visited around Fiji?
I have taken the opportunity over the last few years to travel around much of Fiji, from driving around Viti Levu, cruising through the Mamanuca and the Yasawa Islands, and across to Vanu Levu.

What is the one place in Fiji you would take visitors to?
Sigatoka Sand Dunes, apart from the spectacular views and great exercise to to get there, it is fascinating how the dunes are formed from coastal hinterland erosion.

Cafe Planet on the Coral Coast, Korotogo, Sigatoka.
What is your favourite place for coffee/pie?
Cafe Planet along Korotogo, Adrian is a lovely personality with good service and a great pie and coffee as well!

Rakiraki Hilltop, a beautiful breeze with stunning views and lush countryside.

What is one place in Fiji that remains on your bucket list?
Taveuni
