The Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Suva held a two-day Catholic Men’s convention aiming to transform men into being more centred in Christ.

Archbishop Peter Loy Chong said the convention that ended yesterday was in response to Gender Based Violence (GBV).

“We hope to achieve this by providing a foundation for male spirituality,” he said.

He said after the convention the participants would return to their parishes and villages and set up a men’s support group that will meet once a month.

“Men need to find a place to share their struggles, their brokenness. Right now, there is not much avenue for them.”

Archbishop Loy Chong said the project was one of the fruits of the COVID-19 lockdown.

Participant, Iowane Naivili said it was important for men to protect their loved ones and through the convention he learnt the importance of men’s role.

“Sometimes as a man we think we have it all and we forget the importance of women,” Mr Naivili said.

60 men were part of the convention.
