Tongan Govt to Replicate Fiji Enterprise Engine

The Tongan Government is looking to replicate the  (FEE). The Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation (FCEF) partnered in December, 2018 to establish the Fiji Enterprise Engine – a Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) acceleration programme.

Savenace Baro, Business Accelerator Manager, looks after the FEE programme.

FCEF chief executive Kameli Batiweti said FEE was aimed at providing effective business advisory services targeted to FCEF’s members.

It particularly targets FCEF’s Young Entrepreneurs Council and Women Entrepreneurs & Business Council.

FEE is Fiji’s first private-sector-led business acceleration programme inclusive of MSMEs classroom learning, one-on-one mentoring, group activities and networking boosters designed to provide participants with business skills and follow up support to effectively grow their businesses.

Mr Batiweti said: “This year because of the lockdown restrictions, we were not able to have a face to face session with the Fiji Enterprise Engine programme.

“And so in between, they have been doing these virtual sessions FOC for the MSME people.

“Recently, the Australian government has reached out and has informed the Tongan government that there is a programme that is working in Fiji that has been successful.

“FEE has had three cohorts and they have been successful even during the lockdown and they have remained open.

“Save’s role was to continue to touch base with the three cohorts and to see how they’re faring, if there was any assistance that was needed.

“The new wind that has come through is the Tongan government now is interested and are coming on board, they would they’ve engage Save’s services through MDF.

“Save is like an advisor to them on what are the things to do, what are the things to be on the lookout for.

“We are about to kick off with the Tongans very soon now.

“So we’re just waiting for the Tongans to be ready.

“They’ll just replicate that and use it in Tonga.”
