Booster shots of the COVID-19 vaccine will be made available for the general public once more stock of the vaccines arrive into the country.

Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services, Dr James Fong, said for now the focus was on the frontliners and those over the age of 60 years and or people with comorbidities.

The booster shot or the third jab of the vaccine has been recommended by the World Health Organisation as the best deterrent against the forecasted third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am giving preference to the group mentioned, however we are not being too strict. We do have to be careful that the preferential groups get as many chances as possible,” Dr Fong said.

He said discussions were also underway in regards to vaccinating children between five and 11 years of age.

Dr Fong said what was most important was people adhering to COVID-safe measure because this was the difference between starting and stopping the third wave.
