Omicron-Infected Fijians ‘Now Non-Infectious’

The two Fijians who tested positive with the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus have completed isolation and have been rendered non-infectious.
This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services, Dr James Fong yesterday.
A person rendered non-infectious is no longer likely to spread infection.
Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said the two maintained a very stable condition through their isolation period which was a positive sign noting that they were both fully vaccinated.
The two Fijians had returned to Fiji the same day the discovery of the Omicron variant was announced internationally.
They had tested negative for COVID-19 before departure from Fiji and before they left Nigeria. The case was noted on a day four test while in quarantine at a designated Government quarantine facility.
The duo’s test results were sent to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services’ partner laboratory in Australia with results received on Sunday, December 5.
