My Suva Park Christmas Tree Brings Jobs, Entertainment

The smell of candy floss, the sound of children having fun and a huge Christmas tree brought an atmosphere of festivities back to the capital city last week after almost two years.
Since the Christmas tree at My Suva Picnic Park was lit last Friday crowds has grown each night.
Vinesh Lal of Jittu Estate in Suva had found employment during this time. He sells toys with LED lights.
“I thank Vodafone and Suva City Council for organising this. It almost feels like the Hibiscus Festival,” Mr Lal said.
“It was hard during the lockdowns. This event has allowed me to make some money and get my children ready for school.”
Families were using the park to spend time together and young people had found a new meeting spot.
Norbert Fisher and Rosemary Scotte took pictures in front of the tree and the inflated Santa Claus to send to all their friends.
The Ram family of Nasinu came to have an outing at night.
“There are few things which can be done at night right now. I brought my family along so we could enjoy the night together,” said Ravneet Ram.
There is a bouncy castle for the children, choir performances and a live disc jockey for entertainment. Vodafone which is the major sponsor of the event has ensured there is entertainment every night until Christmas Eve.
Suva City Council urged the public to follow COVID-safe protocols when coming to the park. The Fiji Police Force has been working with the council in enforcing the guidelines.
