“More games will be played, more game time and this is how we will improve,” he said. “This is a new technical requirement. It is according to the studies done by the national coach. And that is the reason, the technical department staffs have shown to the districts officials why it is important to play many games."

The Digicel Premier League competition will be played under a new format from next season.

This was revealed during the Fiji FA’s 83rd annual congress in Lautoka last weekend.

The new format will see four rounds of competition instead of two.

Each team will be playing a total of 28 matches.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said this was to give more game time to the players.

“This is done to give more game to our players so they can enhance their skills and keep them fit for the whole season,” said Patel.

“More games will be played, more game time and this is how we will improve,” he said.

“This is a new technical requirement.”

“It is according to the studies done by the national coach. And that is the reason, the technical department staffs have shown to the districts officials why it is important to play many games.”

There will be two home games and two away games.

Currently, the DPL has 14 games with two rounds.

Also for next year, the Fiji Fact Tournament will be played at Lawaqa Park, the Battle of the Giants will be held at Churchill Park while the ANZ Stadium will be the venue for the IDC.

Patel adds that they are still trying to finalise the dates.
