Ilikimi Torosi is ready to carry the family and Police legacy at the 63rd FMF Ratu Sukuna Bowl challenge at the ANZ stadium today.

The Laselase, Nadroga native is the son of former Police officer and assistant rugby team coach Samuela Vunaki who retired last year.

Aged 20, the former Ratu Kadavulevu School and current Nadroga loose is looking forward to his first Ratu Sukuna Bowl challenge against Army at 4pm today.

“This is my first Ratu Sukuna Bowl Cup and I want to thank the Lord and the coaching staff for giving me this opportunity,” Torosi said.

“My father has retired, I’m just following his footsteps.

“My goal is to keep that tradition and continue with my family and Police legacy.

“At home my family couldn’t believe that I’m on the Sukuna Bowl team list.”

“When they call I always ask them for their prayers and blessings.”

“The environment is new but the game of rugby is old.”

“I’m blessed to have supportive senior players.”

Police captain Ulaisi Lawavou said that this is the right time to introduce new players.

“I’m 36-years-old and very soon I will be hanging my boots and these young boys will be the future of the Police rugby team,” Lawavou said.

“This is my nineth Ratu Sukuna Bowl challenge and Kimi’s first so he has a long way ahead,” he said.

“We’ve been preparing for this challenge for a few weeks and the feedback has been positive.”

“There are a lot of experience players and we are ready to defend our title.”

“My message to the players is to remain humble and focused.

“I want to wish the Army side well because I know they will come out fir”ing tomorrow.”
