Police Probe Death Of Man Found Lying On Road, With Marks On Body

Police are investigating the discovery of the body of a man at Wailea Settlement in Vatuwaqa yesterday.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that officers attended to a report of a drinking party where they found a man lying motionless on the road with visible injuries.
Wailea resident, Saleshni Devi, said she was afraid when she saw the body of the man.
“My family have been living in Wailea for about 40 years and this is the first time I have come across something like this,” Ms Devi said.
“We are still in shock. Most of the time we hear youths shouting while they drink so it was normal for us when he heard them on Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
“When I woke up early in the morning, I saw Police vehicles in front of our home. I was shocked when I came outside and saw the body of the man.”
Another resident, Inosi Nayacalevu, said he knew something was amiss when he saw police officers in front of his home.
“The man that was found might be around 40 years old. To see him lying there was a sad sight,” Mr Nayacalevu said.
“I could see visible marks on his body so he might have been attacked. There were some youths making noise in the middle of the night but I did not want to say anything as they might do something to my family and me.”
Police were able to retrieve footage from a CCTV camera at a home a few metres from where the man was found.
The identity of the man remains uncertain.
