Team Sheraton Rajnesh Prasad and Kushal Pillay took out the Grid Security Services sponsored 2021 National Open Pairs title in style at the Suva Bowling Club on Sunday.

The team proved too strong with a 29-5 victory over Team Lautoka (Dev Anand/Nicklesh Satya) in the final.

Prasad said their journey in the two day event was tough one with the competitionjust neck to neck.

“We just have to take our chances and bring the a-game to the green,” he said.

In the semi-final, Sheraton defeated Team Suva (Martin Fong/Krishan Singh) 21- 17 while Lautoka defeated Suva II (Suren Chand/Parmesh Chand) 17-6.

In the ladies category, Team Tamavua (Litia Tikoisuva/Losalini Tukai) reigned victorious in the round robin competition.

Back to Back defending champions Mereani Thaggard/Loretta Kotoisuva settled for runner up spot as they lost to Suva’s (Elizabeth Moceiwai/Sarote Hiagi) 21-18 in their final pool match.

Tournament organizer Martin Fong said the event was a success with national reps in full force.

“It was a great weekend of bowls and weather to match.”

“A big thank you to Grid Security Services Fiji Limited for sponsoring such a successful tournament,” he said.

Bowls Fiji vice president Bobby Prasad said the second round of trial for the Fiji team selection will be held at the Nadi Sports and Social Club on January 15-16.

He added that the trials had begun early this month whereby players competed over two days in Suva.

“There is a place in the team for five men and five women that will go on to represent Fiji at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games,” he said.

He added that in early January, Nadi will play host to the Masters Pair 2021 Championship where those that won tournaments will compete in.

At the end of January, Suva will play host to the East versus West 2021 tournament.
