Health Ministry Ramps Up On Measles Vaxx In Light Of Recent New Cases

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has ramped up its measles immunisation campaign following the recording of cases in the country.
In an advisory yesterday the ministry has called on parents to ensure that all children aged six months to 11 years old in the Serua-Namosi Medical Subdivision receive one dose of measles vaccination and children aged six months to five years shall receive two drops of oral Polio vaccine.
The advisory stated that all children in Fiji who had turned one-year-old and were yet to receive their MMR vaccine, were encouraged to go to their nearest health facility for their vaccination.
Message to all
This included Year One students who were yet to receive their measles vaccination.
“All members of the public in Viti Levu who are travelling to the outer islands for their Christmas and New Year holidays, all parents and guardians of children travelling should ensure that their children have completed their vaccination before travel,” the ministry advised.
“This will ensure that the travelling children as well as the vulnerable children in their holiday destinations are well protected.
“Travel operators and tour organisers are encouraged to ensure that children who are travelling out of Viti Levu have completed their immunisation schedule as per their immunisation cards.
The ministry further advised all parents and guardians of children throughout Fiji to check on the immunisation status of their children and ensure that the immunisation status of their children are up to date and all scheduled immunisations due to date have been taken.
Any individual presenting with the signs and symptoms of measles are requested to visit their nearest health facility for immediate attention.
