The late Tui Nawaka, Ratu Asaeli Driu Naevo, was a leader who showed sympathy and concern for others.

This was in a eulogy made by the Nadi Community Policing Sergeant Ben Vukivou at the Nawaka Methodist Church in Nadi yesterday.

“He cared for the youths who were found loitering in town, involved in various unruly behaviour and he provided them with wheelbarrows so they could earn something for their livelihood the right way,” he said.

“We have lost an inspiring leader.”

Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs, Pita Tagicakakirewa said: “Nawaka Village was the first village in the country to implement COVID-16 restrictions in the country. That was Tui Nawaka’s thoughtfulness for the safety and wellbeing of his people.”

Among those paying their last respects to Ratu Asaeli were The People Alliance’s leader Sitiveni Rabuka, MP Osea Naiqamu, SODELPA leader Viliame Gavoka, Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa, and Tui Nadi Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci.

Ratu Asaeli died in his sleep at his home on December 13. He was installed as the Tui Nawaka on December 13, 2013.
