Overseas Experts For Fiji Swimming

Fiji Swimming (FS) hopes to secure overseas high performance coaches for six months in preparation for the Commonwealth Games. They have eight swimmers for the Birmingham 2022 Games which starts on July 28 to August 8. This was confirmed by president, Ben Rova, after their three-day workshop last weekend.

Fiji Swimming (FS) hopes to secure overseas high performance coaches for six months in preparation for the Commonwealth Games.

They have eight swimmers for the Birmingham 2022 Games which starts on July 28 to August 8.

This was confirmed by president, Ben Rova, after their three-day workshop last weekend.

 

A total of 44 swimmers are part of the provisional squad, including Olympians Taichi Vakasama and Cheyenne Rova.

“Fiji Swimming has submitted for four males and four females as swimmers numerical to the Games,” Rova said.

 

“Our top two items are the hiring of a High Performance coach for six months, from Feb 2022 to July 2022 and a full time HPC from August 2022 to August 2024.

“We are seeking funding from OSA (Oceania Swimming Association) for the six months preparations for FINA LC Worlds and Commonwealth Games and a full time coach for the 2023 Pacific Games and 2024 Olympics.

“Funding for this will be through our Fiji Nationals Sports Commission.”

 

The workshop also discussed FS’s revised Strategic Plans covering;
– The Short term hiring of overseas expert HPC from February 2022 to July 202

– The hiring of an Overseas Expert Full time High Performance Coach from August 2022 to Paris 2024

– Establishing and maintaining our Core Squads through to 2024 Olympics

– Training and Competition program for the Core, Development and Junior IM Squads 2022

– Establishing FS Sub Committees [Only 2 FSSC are fully functional, FS Selection Committee & FS Finance Committee].

– Implementing FS SOP policies to meet FINA’s new policies on Good Governance, etc

– Update of FS Constitution

– Establishing a Partnership through the Local Corporate sector, Fiji National Sports Commission and FASANOC for funding the development program

 

FS also had short presentations by FNSC Executive Chairman Peter Mazey, FASANOC Vice President Cathy Wong and Commonwealth Games Chef De Misson Sale Sorovaki.
