Two Fishermen Swim To Safety, One Still Missing After Boat Capsized
Search efforts have been activated for a fisherman who has been reported missing in waters near Vomo Island.
The missing fisherman had gone with two others on a fishing trip on the 21st of December and they were due to return on the 24th, when their boat named “Labasa” capsized near Vomo Island due to strong winds.
At around 1am this morning, the Beachcomber Island Resort manager reported that one of the fisherman a 25-year old residing in Natabua, Lautoka was under their care after swimming safely to shore.
At around 10.30am another report was received that the second fisherman swam to Turtle Island Resort and was being looked after by the staff.
Search efforts with the assistance of the Ministry of Fisheries and other mariners has been activated for the third fisherman who remains missing at sea.
