The Ministry of Health and Medical Services will set up additional booster vaccination sites once there is enough manpower.

Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services, Dr James Fong, said the majority of health staff were on leave and the ministry would consider setting up more sites when they resume work.

Dr Fong sought the understanding of the general public on this issue.

Yesterday, a large crowd gathered at Albert Park to receive their booster shots with people having to wait long hours to get their jab.

Eligible individuals queued up in vehicles while nurses also accommodated walk-in vaccinations to members of the public who were present to receive their dose of the booster shot.

Kinisimere Joji, 55, who had travelled from Nabua to receive her booster shot at Albert Park requested if there could be more booster vaccination sites available for the public to avoid everyone crowding up in one site.

She said this would benefit people and be more convenient instead of having to make long travels.

Dr Fong said with the current surge in cases, the ministry would continue to include its focus on booster doses, protecting aged care homes, outreach to remote settings, line listing and follow-up of high-risk individuals, and setting up intermediate care facilities with appropriate standard operating procedures.

Other sites administering the booster shots in the Central Division include the Valelevu and Nakasi Health Centre, Pak and Save Residence and the Nausori Maternity Unit.
