The Food King sponsored Dratabu Green rugby club is adamant to make their debut at the inaugural Fiji Bitter Malake 7s and netball tournament 2022 at the Ra Sports ground in Rakiraki on January 20-22.

Club manager Sitai Vavudali said the players have been training for the tournament before the start of the festive season.

“We were ready to play at the Wooden Brothers 7s in Lautoka last month but missed out in the slot, this time we have made sure that we are counted,” Vavudali said.

“We have some pretty good and upcoming players and this tournament will give them the opportunity to showcase their talents and capabilities.

He added over the years, Dratabu RC has produced national reps such as Vuniani Varo, late Samisoni Viriviri  Snr, Peceli Gale Snr, Timoci Nagusa, Olympians and current 7s reps, Samisoni Viriviri Jnr and Kitione Taliga.

“We are using this as a motivational tool for the players to follow,” he said.

The organisers have confirmed a total of 32 teams for the men’s category, eight teams in the women’s category and 16 teams will compete in the Under 21 category.

The winner of the men’s competition will walk away $5000 richer while the women’s and the Under 21 categories will each collect $1000.

Netball and volleyball competitions will aslo win prizes.
