Tavua Man Drowns After Trying To Cross River

With more floodings expected as a result of heavy rain forecasted in the next few days, members of the public should stay away and refrain from crossing flooded rivers.

A 35-year-old Tavua man has been recorded as the first fatality of TDO3F.

National Disaster Management Office Director Vasiti Soko said the man is from Mataniwai in Tavua.

He was swept away by strong currents while trying to cross the Mataniwai river at 11am today.

Ms Soko said the incident should be a wake-up for very Fijian that flooding kills.

“With more floodings expected as a result of heavy rain forecasted in the next few days, we strongly advise members of the public to stay away and refrain from crossing flooded rivers, streams, roads and walkways.”
