Met Service: Too Early To Tell On Social Media Post

A 72-hour time gap is needed to determine the development of another tropical depression headed to Fiji.
This was confirmed by the Fiji Meteorological Service in Nadi, as such a determination could be done by next week.
The Fiji Meteorological Service said this while responding to clarification on the circulation of a forecast map on social media.
They said members of the public were under the impression that forecasters based their forecasts on various models, one of which was on the site Windy website.
“I will not deny that one of the maps shows signs of the system in Fiji’s area of responsibility. As we move closer to 72 hours to a system being formed, then we would be surer, so to say anything now would be misleading,” the Fiji Meteorological Service stated.
“There are various models in the United States and other countries but we want to work with a few models, different models give different forecasts, so it’s up to the forecasters to get the models together and base their forecasts on that.”
The Fiji Meteorological Service also urged members of the public to wait for an official advisory regarding the development of a tropical depression next week.
