A school which was used as an evacuation centre got some assistance from the National Fire Authority (NFA) yesterday.

All Saints Secondary School in Labasa, provided shelter for people during the fall of Tropical Cyclone Cody. Yesterday, NFA officers helped with the school’s clean-up.

School Principal, Kamlesh Prasad, was thankful to the Ministry of Education district office for arranging the NFA officers assistance to their school management in carrying out the clean-up process.

Mr Prasad said they used four classroom blocks to cater for the four families who stayed as part of their evacuation.

He said the NFA used water hydrants to wash the toilet, classroom and possible places of contact where these evacuees used.

“Our school has always provided evacuation support to residents living nearby Volovi and parts of Vunivau settlement,” he said.

Mr Prasad said a team from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in Labasa would soon arrive to carry out their COVID-19 safe disinfection process.

He said once the clean-up and disinfection was completed, they would begin classes upon the advice of the Ministry of Education.

Close to 25 individuals, including children, stayed at the evacuation centre for one night before returning to their respective homes yesterday.
