Power Back To 95% Areas In West

Electricity has been restored to 95 per cent of the affected areas in the Western Division.
Energy Fiji Limited chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said their teams were working hard since Wednesday night to restore power.
They aim to restore electricity in the remaining areas by Saturday.
He said Energy Fiji Limited teams continued to brave the adverse weather conditions in their efforts to identify the fault on the main 132,000 volts main transmission line.
“The 132,000volts transmission line that evacuates power supply from the Wailoa and Nadarivatu Hydro Power Stations tripped on Saturday 8th January 2022 causing a Western Division blackout,” he said.
He said his teams managed to fly out in a helicopter finally and then walk kilometres across rough and rugged terrain to get to the site.
“A landslide had brought down a tree that was causing the line to trip (de-energise). Our teams were able to remove this fallen tree and clear the transmission line.”
He said EFL sincerely apologised for any inconvenience that was caused as a result of the unplanned power outage in the Western Division and seeks the cooperation and understanding of all its customers.
