The weather conditions in recent days demanded a lot of commitment and sacrifice from the Police Offices.

Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, said Fiji Police Force had mitigation measures in place to deal with the weather conditions and to handle manageable risks.

He said this was stressed to them and also were emphasised on the COVID-19-safe operations, which have been a challenge that the Fiji Police Force was going through.

Brigadier-General Qiliho said the Force have been on COVID-19-safe operations for about two years now and with this current weather condition, it demanded the extra effort from the officers.

He said by the nature of the Force’s disposition throughout Fiji, Police were basically on the ground and first responders in many cases.

“We acknowledged the crime prevention committees and community policing groups that have also been working with the Fiji Police Force,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said.

“We acknowledge our stakeholders, the National Fire Authority, National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), and the Divisional Commissioners.

“Everybody has been working hand-in-hand and we cannot say that we are the only ones meeting the sacrifice because there are other organisations that we are working with together in serving the people through the weather conditions,” Police Commissioner Qiliho said.

“We acknowledge and thank the Police officers, NFA and other stakeholders in being able to inquire and act decisively and quickly in assisting people that need assistance even though we might have some limitation in terms of the assets that may be utilised by other developed countries,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said.
