A man’s love for fishing has prompted him to open a seafood restaurant in Sigatoka Town.

Mohammed Ali saw the need to venture into a new area of business after his rental car company fell through triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Naidiri Seafood and Mai Kana restaurant, located along the Market Road, is a $50,000 investment.

Mr Ali has been doing business from a young age but he was born into a family of fishers.

“Just because of COVID-19 I had to look to other avenues or operate something that was going to be supported more by the locals,” Mr Ali said.

“It is also just to keep me afloat during the pandemic.

“That time all the rental cars were parked, there was no business.

“I thought of an idea to re-open the seafood shop and the brand new restaurant.

“I made use of two vacant shipping containers, added an extra ordinary interior design which came up to a splash of over $50, 000 of investment,” Mr Ali said.

Mr Ali said while they can cook an array of cuisines, the restaurant’s specialty remained in seafood.

The new business is creating eight employment opportunities to locals.

Mr Ali, a soccer fanatic who also happens to be the president of the Nadroga Football Association, joined his father to start a fish shop also at Sigatoka Town.

Later he then ventured into the Paradise Rental Cars which is located adjacently to the old fish shop.
