Weather Expected To Clear In Coming Days: Fiji Met

Fijians can expect weather to clear up in the coming days – but showers are expected in the afternoon.

The National Weather Forecasting Centre, in Nadi has canceled heavy rain alerts for the Fiji group and issued a forecast of cloudy periods and afternoon showers.

A statement from the centre said that the heavy rain alert previously in force for the eastern interior, eastern and northern parts of Viti Levu, northern division and the Lau and Lomaiviti group was now canceled.

“The situation is that a trough of low pressure lies slow moving over the northeastern parts of the group. Associated clouds and rain affects parts of the country.”

Forecast for the rest of Fiji group is cloudy periods with afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Isolated heavy falls and few thunderstorms expected over most places in the afternoon or evening.

Meanwhile, a tropical disturbance (TDO4F) lies to the east of Tahiti and is expected to drift southwestwards towards Southern Cooks.

The system is expected to move out of the Nadi Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre Area of Responsibility (RSMC AOR) by later Saturday.

“The potential for formation of tropical cyclone from the expected low in the region is low to moderate. The potential for formation of tropical cyclone  from another system in the region is very low,” the statement said.
