Works On The Parking Spaces, Drainage Underway

Works on the parking spaces and drainage channels in Sigatoka Town are underway.
Once the project is completed, it would create car parking space for 110 vehicles and also ease drainage issues along Mission Road and Duabale Road which connects to the Sigatoka Valley Road respectively.
Sigatoka Town Council acting chief executive officer, Anand Sami Pillay, said the project was 70 per cent completed.
“At the moment, there are only 55 parking spaces created and it will have 110 spaces when completed,” he said.
He said the project goes hand in hand with the drainage works which has also reached 70 per cent completion.
“The project has faced a few challenges that caused a delay during this rainy season,” he said.
The parking lots were earmarked to be fully operational in the coming months.
The Fiji Sun earlier reported that the area of the project is just below 200 metres (from St Joan of Arc School towards the riverside).
The project is a cost-effective one because the council is using its own resources in terms of machineries and workforce.
Mr Pillay added that the recent flooding caused by Tropical Cyclone Cody did not affect the council utilities or business in the township despite the heavy rain.
