Futsal Coach To Arrive Next Month

The growing popularity of futsal in Fiji will see a new national coach arriving next month.
This was confirmed by Fiji Football Association chief executive officer, Mohammed Yusuf during the announcement of the Digicel Futsal Inter-District Competition draws yesterday.
“Fiji FA is taking a serious approach to develop more quality futsal players in the country, hence our desire to have a fulltime futsal coach.
“We have identified an expat from the island and possibility of getting him in mid-February to set plan for selection.”
The 2021 IDC will be held at the Vodafone Arena from January 27- 30.
There will be no spectators and only accredited people will be allowed in the venue.
The eight teams participating are Suva, Rewa, Lami, Rakiraki, Ba, Nadi, Lautoka and Tailevu Naitasiri.
The top two teams from the round robin matches in each group will qualify for the semifinals.
“These teams played in October in the resumption of the game; they have been playing week in and week out. That is how they qualify,” Yusuf said.
“Labasa will not be participating. Under the protocol there is no inter-island travel for teams, only individual.
Yusuf added Oceania Football Confederation is planning to host the Oceania FUTSAL World Cup qualifier in Fiji in August.
“We should plan well, and we are inviting New Caledonia to play some FUTSAL friendly games in June or July in a very strict manner.”
Meanwhile Suva are reigning holders of the coveted futsal IDC cup.
