Tui Nalawa Delegates Team To Assist Affected Families

A group of representatives have been delegated to distribute food rations and clothing to flood-affected families in the district of Nalawa in Ra.
This was confirmed by the Gone Turaga Na Tui Nalawa, Ratu Epeli Niudamu.
“A total of 13 to 15 families in the 18 villages throughout Nalawa have been affected; these families live closest to the Wainibuka River. Since we are still waiting for assistance from Government and the NGOs, we have given some food and clothing to these families,” he said.
Ratu Epeli said the families were not only affected by flooding, but also by other factors.
“Our families in towns have also sent some funds for relatives back in the village and we have given some crops and vegetables as well as coconuts to those affected,” he said.
“Right now, we have visited families twice and we are relying on the Turaga ni koro’s in all the affected villages to report back to us about families that still need help so that the district can organise another aid.”
He urged fortunate members of the public to help loved ones who have been extremely affected by the recent Tropical Cyclone Cody.
“While we wait for assistance from the Government, we as Fijians should take the initiative to help our loved ones because one day you will need help,” he said.
