Desperate Mum Breaks Down, Thanks Fijians for Helping Family

Jessie Liku was emotional when she described how thankful she felt after receiving assistance from Fijians both from within the country and abroad.
Ms Liku’s story was first highlighted in the Fiji Sun after her partner allegedly burned their home along Edinburgh Drive Settlement in Suva.
The mother of five had thoughts of suicide, but it was the face of her children that stopped her from making the decision to take her life.
“I am so overwhelmed by the assistance rendered to my children and I and it means a lot to us. I never expected people to help us by sending us money and in kind,” Ms Liku said.
“To think that Fijians are ready to help my children and I during this tough time, especially with COVID-19 is just overwhelming.
“I have been receiving calls from Fijians in Fiji and abroad ever since the Fiji Sun published my story and for that I am thankful to the Fiji Sun for giving a space in their newspaper for me to tell my story.”
Ms Liku said people have shown interest in building their home.
“Fijians have called me wanting to buy the materials to build our house and I am so grateful,” she said.
“There are no words I can say that would sum up how grateful we are. Thank you to every Fijian in Fiji and abroad who has sent us money and in kind. Thank you to those who have prayed for us.
“Thank you to Fiji Sun for giving me a chance to tell my story because without your journalists, I would not be receiving any type of assistance.”

Jessie’s story was first published in the Fiji Sun Weekend – January 15-16, 2022.
