Government Pays Out $1million For Over 40,000 Doctor Visits

Government has paid out more than $1million to private doctors for patient care in the past eight months.

Economy Permanent Secretary Shiri Gounder confirmed they had settled the bill for more than 40,000 doctor visits by Fijians.

Seven doctors in Suva, five in Nadi, one in Lautoka and four in Ba had opted to join government’s efforts to provide healthcare for Fijians. Their fees are paid by Government for every patient they see in their clinics.

The private practitioners around the country under the ‘COVID-19 Engagement of Private Medical General Practitioners Scheme’ were approved to lessen burden on our public hospitals.

Approved medical services are as follows:

  1. Consultation
  2. Review
  3. Referrals
  4. Injections
  5. Dressings
  6. Other minor dressings.
