Minister Apologises For Staff Members Lack Of Discipline

Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete has apologised to the people of Lakeba on behalf of his medical staff on the island.
Dr Waqainabete said he heard rumours of his staff misbehaving on the island.
It is alleged that some Lakeba medical staff members were drinking alcohol and acting in a rowdy manner disturbing villagers on the island.
“I have had talks with medical staff yesterday (Sunday) and informed them of what I have heard. I told them of the importance of professionalism at workplaces,” Dr Waqainabete said.
“I have also told them that I do not want to hear another rumour like this and if I do, then everyone will be disciplined.
“They must always remain professional. It is important for villagers to trust us. If they stop trusting us, then what’s the use of being here and when that happens, then they will be of no use in the ministry.
“I will give my number and if you have any grievances against the staff from my ministry, please do not hesitate to contact me,” he said.
Matakicicia (traditional position), Peni Dakai said he was glad that Dr Waqainabete had addressed this issue with his staff members at Lakeba Hopsital.
