Water Under Assessment After Tidal Surge

Government departments are in Lakeba, Lau to assess the island’s water system.
Villages in Lakeba experienced tidal surge after the volcanic eruption in Tonga on January 15.
Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete during a talanoa session at Tubou Village in Lakeba said representatives from other ministries were also present to conduct their respective assessment.
“We are here for a lot of reasons; we are here to assess your water system and other issues you would like to raise,” Dr Waqainabete said.
“We will test the PH level of your water supply if it is safe. Our Water Authority of Fiji team is on the ground visiting all villages.
“We also have a team from Fiji Roads Authority, Ministry of Agriculture and other government department personnel who are ready to answer any of your queries.”
COVID -19
Dr Waqainabete stressed the importance of being vaccinated and getting the booster shot.
“COVID is here to stay, and we must all work together to protect our children who are below the age of 12,” he said.
“Those who are vaccinated act as a ring defence for the children. We must think of our children and get vaccinated.”
There are eight villages on the island of Lakeba.
