The Mualevu Women’s Association in Vanuabalavu, Lau is seeking assistance for the construction of a village hall for their activities.

The women are also hoping to receive a sewing machine and kitchen utensils.

The group has more than 50 members. The youngest is 18 years old.

Association leader Taufa Korocawiri said they needed a hall for members to use and earn extra income.

Ms Korocawiri said  tropical cyclones had destroyed their village hall which had not been renovated.

She said they wanted a separate hall that would be under the association’s name.

The hall would be used by the women to weave mats, have meetings and workshops that Government ministries or Non-Government Organisations would conduct.

“The assistance will help us a lot. We have about $2000 and would like to increase that.”

Ms Korocawiri also thanked Government for helping them in the past.
