Our Women Close To Super W Debut

Our women are on the verge of playing in this year’s Super W competition.
Super W is a women’s competition that started in 2018 for the five Australian Super Rugby sides which include the Waratahs, Reds, Rebels, Brumbies, and Western Force
While the Fiji Rugby Union executives are working hard to finalise the Fijiana Drua’s participation, in the Super W competition, all mechanisms regarding the team’s preparation are now in place.
“We will be issuing media statements once everything is confirmed,” said FRU chief executive officer John O’Connor when asked yesterday.
It is understood that a 22-member Fijiana Drua squad have been named by head coach Senirusi Seruvakula.
The players and team officials are now in quarantine before they leave for Australia.
A source told SUNsports that 10 overseas- based players would join the Drua squad in Australia.
The squad of local- based players are expected to leave this weekend.
In June, last year, the FRU welcomed the announcement by Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator Marise Payne.
The announcement includes funding to help establish both the Fijian Drua and their inclusion in the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman competition and also for the Fiji’s women’s team to join Rugby Australia’s Super W competition.
“Our Fijiana team has qualified for the (Women’s) Rugby World Cup to be held in New Zealand in late 2022. And joining the Super Rugby W competition will give our women’s players a much-needed Programme of high-level competition to help them prepare for the Women’s RWC,” said O’Connor at that time.”
