A fire destroyed years of challenging work when it gutted a three-bedroom house at Matasawalevu, Dreketi on Thursday night.

Vidya Wati is in a state of disbelief knowing her family abode is ruined.

The 55-year-old mother of two children lived with her younger son Anil Lal and husband Janendra Prasad.

“We had just left to attend a birthday party at a relative’s house five minutes away from our home when we heard a man who was passing by our home calling out that there was fire,”Ms Wati said.

“We haven’t experienced a fire before and it left us dumbfounded at the sight before as to what or who started the fire.

“We have lost everything, what we have built over the years and made into our home

“Life is hard, and the cost of living is expensive, it is so sad to lose a house in such a way.”
