TikToker’s Bail Condition: Stay Away From Social Media

A Fiji-born TikTok commentator has been ordered to stay away from social media for the next 14-days.
Accused, Anis Khatoon Gwaizda (known as Nazmeen on TikTok), 61, of Sydney, Australia appeared before Magistrate Peni Dalituicama at the Nadi Magistrate Court charged with two counts of causing harm by posting electronic communication, contrary to section 24 (1) and (2) (a) of the Online Safety Act, 2018.
She was represented by lawyer Faizal Koya of Siddiq Koya Lawyers, while Prenika Lata represented the state.
The court heard that during the period between June 1, 2021 and January 1, 2022, the accused had posted communication with intention to cause harm to her step-sister and her niece.
Ms Lata told the court that the accused was related to the complainant and a pending Police investigation was yet to be completed on the matter.
Mr Koya informed the court that the accused had co-operated while in Police custody.
Mr Koya requested for some time so he could make a written submission on the matter to the Online Safety Commission in regards to the alleged matter.
Mr Koya told the court that his client had made a cross complaint and he urged Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to look into the matter as well.
The court has granted the accused bail, but on strict conditions.
These include a $500 surety bail bond, the accused was issued a stop departure notice and also to stay away from social media.
The matter was adjourned to February 11 for mention.
