The paramount chief of Nadroga, Turaga Na Ka Levu, Ratu Tevita Makutu, is the leader of a political movement that has applied to register a proposed new party. The proposed party is called the “We Unite Fiji Party”.

The application was lodged with the Registrar of Political Parties Mohammed Saneem on Monday.

This was confirmed by the former Deputy Speaker of Parliament and FijiFirst MP, Rupeni Nadalo who is also one of the administrative members of the party.

Mr Nadalo is currently the chairman of the Nadroga Navosa Provincial Council.

“We have submitted our application for our registration yesterday (Monday) to the Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem,” he  said.

He added that the proposed party would not be able to give any details to the media until they had received an outcome from the Fijian Elections Office.

“We have to abide by the FEO protocols. We have to wait for the release from them then we will give comments to the media.”

SODELPA party leader Viliame Gavoka had earlier announced that he had been asked by his chief Ratu Tevita to quit and join his proposed new party.

He declined. Subsequent to that approach all the officials of SODELPA’s Nadroga Constituency Council resigned to support Ratu Tevita who was not happy with the way Mr Gavoka was being treated by his critics in the party.

Mr Gavoka is hanging on to the party leadership despite attempts to oust him. He is also polling poorly in the Fiji Sun-Western Force Research public opinion poll.
