On Tuesday afternoon, Nadi farmer Lalit Kumar, 37, was inspecting his farm after the recent floods when he made a gruesome discovery.

Still in shock, Mr Kumar shared that he discovered the body of a man floating at a river near his flooded farm at Navo.

Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro confirmed the account of Mr Kumar, saying the body of a man was found floating in the river near Koromakawa Rd.

Around 3.40pm on Tuesday, Mr Kumar said he went to check on his vegetable farm as the area was underwater. He described seeing something that looked like a black waste plastic bag floating near some banana trees.

“I thought it was plastic rubbish because some people had dumped their rubbish there,” he said.

“When I got closer, I realised that it was the body of a man. The body was facing downwards.

“I immediately called out to a lady whose husband is a Policeman and they live nearby.”

He said the woman called her husband who alerted the Police. The farmer suspects that the deceased may have been swept away by flood waters as there was no report of anyone missing in his area.

“I am really shocked and frightened because this is the first time I saw a body or incident like this.”

Ms Naisoro said the identity of the person was not known as investigations continue.

She added that a post-mortem would be conducted to establish how the man died.
