Tiktok Accused Pleads Not Guilty

A Fiji-born TikTok commentator has pleaded not guilty.
The accused Anisa Khatoon Gwaizda, 61, of Sydney, Australia is charged with two counts of causing harm by posting electronic communication, contrary to section 24 (1) and (2) (a) of the Online Safety Act, 2018.
Gwaizda who appeared before Magistrate Peni Dalituicama at the Nadi Magistrate Court on Friday was rep- resented by lawyer Faizal Koya of Siddiq Koya lawyers, and lawyer Prenika Lata represented the state.
Mr Koya requested the court that his client who is an Australian citizen be granted bail so she could return to her son who is on dialysis and required her attention.
The court heard that she travelled to Fiji for business and visits families three to four times a year and as a businesswoman she sells online products.
Mr Koya said his client was ready to follow her bail conditions.
He further informed the court that his client did not commit an indictable offence and had cooperated while on bail. However, Ms Lata objected to bail on the grounds that the accused would de part the country and not return to attend her court proceedings and would continue to use social media.
Magistrate Dalituicama informed the defence counsel to submit the bail variation application on February 14, and the state to respond by February 18.
The accused had her bail extended and was urged to remain away from social media even from her business online platform.
The matter has been adjourned for bail hearing on February 22.
