A vegetarian eatery opened in Labasa over the weekend complementing the demand for local cuisines in the area.

Rani’s Vegetarian Restaurant located at Savilla House was opened by Member of Parliament, Rohit Sharma.

Owner Monika Sharma who recently resigned from Ministry of Education after teaching for eight years is from Namara, Labasa.

She’s been a vegetarian since birth and her dream to open a vegetarian eatery has finally turned to reality.

The former teacher of Bulileka Sanatan College in Labasa said it took her three years to plan the investment of $40,000.

“The location is very ideal, it is close to the bus stand and taxi stand, she said.

The establishment opens from 9.30am to 6pm on weekdays and between 8am and 2pm on Sundays.

The youngest of three siblings and only daughter in the family said her family members make up the staff members.

“We are all vegetarian and know how to cook and serve meals,” the mother of two said.

“It’s much more than an investment and we want to serve people the best sweets, juice, snacks and meals.”

Her eldest brother is a businessman in Australia while her second brother is Mr Sharma, the MP who is also a businessman.

“Joining my siblings in the business industry was also my dream,” she said.

Her advice to those who are afraid to invest into business is to give yourself a chance to take risk and learn from it.
