SODELPA Aims For 30% Women Candidates For Election

The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) is looking at getting 30 per cent women candidates for the upcoming General Election.
SODELPA Vice President, Ro Teimumu Kepa, said more women were needed in Parliament.
The SODELPA Women’s forum would be holding its Annual General Meeting tomorrow (Saturday) at the Epworth Hall in Suva at 10am.
Ro Teimumu said the programme would include the appointment of two Vice Presidents for the Women’s Forum.
“With this being the election year, the SODELPA Women’s forum has been very busy in the preparation of our women members and our families for this year’s General Election,” Ro Teimumu said.
“To prepare for this important national duty, we at SODELPA have earmarked a number of important democratic processes that will help enhance the party’s chances at the national election.”
Ro Teimumu said there would be guest speakers who would discuss SODELPA’s policies for women and other aspects of SODELPA’s election preparations.
“The Fijian Elections Officer has accepted a request to be at the venue as well to help women who need to change their voter cards for details. Women or those that wish to utilise these services will need to bring their original birth certificate or certified copies of their birth certificates,” she said.
“They will also need to bring an identification card which may include the following: a driver’s license, joint FNPF and Tax card, Fijian passport, social welfare ID card, employment ID card and tertiary students ID card.”
Ro Teimumu said women and youths made up a crucial segment in Fiji’s governance as well the majority of eligible and registered voters and it was the forum’s aim that they would be given the necessary support to carry out their national duties as best as they could.
